Review of An Abundance of Katherines
An Abundance of Katherines is a book written by John Green about Colin Singleton, a child prodigy who was recently dumped by his girlfriend, Katherine. Though, this wasn't his first Katherine, it was his nineteenth. Every Katherine he has been with has dumped him, but Katherine 19 specifically made him devastated. He decides to go for a road trip with his friend Hassan to get over his recent break up and winds up in a small town called Gutshot, Tennessee. He stops there for a roadside attraction, the Archduke Franz Ferdinand's tomb and meets a girl named Lindsey who lives and works in Gutshot. Colin and Hassan stay with Lindsey and her mother, Hollis, and help with interviewing people in the town who work for the local factory. During his stay, Colin writes his theorem, filled with parabolas and mathematic equations about the probability of being dumped by or dumping a Katherine. Will Colin find another Katherine or was number nineteen the last?
The author of An Abundance of Katherines, John Green, has written many young adult books (some you might've heard of: The Fault in Our Stars, Turtles All the Way Down, Paper Towns, Looking for Alaska) and honestly his books are some of the best I've read. The characters in his books are relatable and give the reader realistic perspectives. If you decide to read An Abundance of Katherines I also recommend checking out John Green's other books.
In my opinion, An Abundance of Katherines was an overall good book. The ending felt a bit rushed compared to the rest of the book, but I enjoyed reading the book. An Abundance of Katherines was also an easy read and quite comedic. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in reading a funny and somewhat romantic (but not very) young adult novel.
I really enjoyed reading this blog. When I read "Katherine 19", I immediately thought of COVID 19 and how it has turned our lives upside down. This books seems very interesting. I found the idea that Colin uses his math skills to figure out the probability funny. This seems like a silly and enjoyable book.
ReplyDeleteNice Job!
When I saw this book title, I immediately got excited, because I remember reading this novel a while back. I enjoyed it, and it's always interesting to hear the thoughts of another person on a book I've read. Great job!
ReplyDeleteOnly one thing I'd mention - You didn't put your name down, whoever wrote this blog post, and it might be good to put it down somewhere to get credit for your work.
ReplyDeleteOh sorry I wrote this
DeleteWhen I first read the title of the book I was really confused and thought I read it wrong, but an Abundance of Katherine's sounds like a pretty interesting book and the title makes sense after reading your post. I've never read a John Green book, but I've heard and been told about him a lot of times, and this one sounds pretty good! Thanks for the recommendation!
