The Hate U Give Book Review
A book that I have recently read isThe Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. This book is about a 15 year old girl named Starr who is the witness of her friend, Khalil's death. Khalil drives her home from a party one night and is stopped by a police officer who reports that they were speeding, when they weren't, and shoots Khalil. Starr struggles with telling the people at her school, a place where she doesn't fit in because of her skin color. Starr goes through trials, problems with her friends, gangs in her neighborhood, protests, and violence in her neighborhood during the aftermath of Khalil's death. People are angry and Starr has to face her fears and show people how unfair life is for people in her position.
What I found interesting about this book is how it relates to current problems that we face not only in this country, but all around the world. Racism is often overlooked and it is important to understand how it affects people. The Hate U Give is a good way of understanding the Black Lives Matter protests that happened in 2020. The problems discussed in this book are similar to what started the recent movement, and offer a prospective for how violence can affect just more than one person and it is important to know about these events.
I thought this book was very good and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in reading it. The Hate U Give is a great book to read for comprehending current events and it is one of the best books I have ever read.
